God’s Embroidery

Acts 20:24 But I count my life of no value to myself, so that I may finish my course and the ministry I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of God’s grace.

What seemed like a little girl’s dream was God’s purpose all along. My name is Cynthia Rojas.  I live in a small town in the southern mountains of Ecuador where evangelical believers make up only 1% of the population.

At this point of my life I still can’t believe God has had this plan for me. Not that long ago I was totally lost, not knowing what to do, say or where to go.  I felt like I did the first time I saw my grandma embroidering. As I was sitting at her feet all I could see was a confusing mess of thread. Then, when she was done, I stood up and saw that the top of the embroidery was a beautiful flower.

I know a lot of young people have conversations like this with God. “Father, what are you doing?” “Nothing makes sense.” And He says, “My dear son, I am embroidering your life”.

I really long to see all young people encounter God in a way that they can see and understand the plan the Lord has designed for each of them and be at peace. Right now many young people are saying they don’t want to be in this world because they don’t understand why so many bad things happen to them. They even believe that God is not good because ‘He lets bad things happen’.

Currently we are working with young people from three communities. The vision God gave us for the ministry He placed in our hands is to see young people healed from wounds in their hearts through the Gospel of the Kingdom of God. He can use them as a bridge so more people can know the good news and finally recognize their identity in Christ. They can look to God instead of only looking at the difficulties, or the embroiderer’s knots. They need to see that God is their foundation and He has been their companion and will always be by their side.

I speak to them through the testimony of what God has done for me in individual and group discipleship. We develop friendships with them so they can open up to share their situations and then their parents can see the change God is doing in their lives. I know without a doubt God’s plans never change and He finishes what He starts. He will continue His embroidery in our lives until the end.

Joshua 1:9 Haven’t I commanded you: be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
