Mandie serves as a bridge connecting the Church and its surrounding neighborhoods. She trains church groups and builds trust by being physically present in communities, using her art that reflects vulnerability and transparency to open up and invite others into deep conversations with the same level of vulnerability and transparency. In the process, Mandie is also able to facilitate conversations between different cultural groups, bridging gaps that once separated to create a more connected community that can better relate to one another.
Although Mandie is transitioning to life in Toledo, Ohio, she continues to support and nurture faith and community at her former church in Glasgow, Scotland. In Ohio, Mandie volunteers as the team chaplain for the Glass City Wranglers, Toledo’s semi-professional men’s basketball team, where she provides support to the players, staff, and their families, and helps connect the team with its community.
The artwork Mandie creates for starting vulnerable and deep conversations is available for free to anyone interested. It can also be found in several coffee shops across the U.S. and on Instagram (@mandmadeintheshade).
