God’s Embroidery

Acts 20:24 But I count my life of no value to myself, so that I may finish my course and the ministry I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of God’s grace.

What once seemed like a little girl’s dream, was God’s purpose all along. Cynthia lives in a small town in the southern mountains of Ecuador, where evangelical believers make up only 1% of the population. Even now, she is amazed at the plans God has for her life.

Not that long ago, Cynthia felt completely lost—unsure of what to do, what to say, or where to go. She felt like she did the first time she watched her grandmother embroidering. As she sat at her feet, all she could see was a confusing mess of thread. But when her grandmother was done, Cynthia stood up and saw that the top of the embroidery was a beautiful flower.

Cynthia understands from experience that a lot of young people have conversations like this with God: “Father, what are You doing?” “Nothing makes sense.” And He says, “My dear son/daughter, I am embroidering your life”.

Cynthia longs to see all young people encounter God in a way that they can see and understand the plan the Lord has designed for each of them, and be at peace. Right now, many young people are saying they don’t want to be in this world because they don’t understand why so many bad things happen to them. They even believe that God is not good because “He lets bad things happen”.

Currently, Cynthia is working with others to serve young people from three communities. The vision God gave them for the ministry He placed in their hands is to see young people healed from wounds in their hearts through the Gospel of the Kingdom of God – knowing He can use them as a bridge so more people can know the Good News and finally recognize their identity in Christ. Helping them recognize God instead of only looking at the difficulties, or the embroiderer’s knots. Cynthia’s desire is for the youth to see that God is their foundation and that He has been their companion and will always be by their side.

Through personal testimony of what God has done for her, Cynthia speaks in individual and group discipleship. She develops friendships with the youth so they can feel safe to open up, share their situations, and let God touch their hearts. As this happens, their parents can see the change God is doing in their lives, opening up more conversations with the wider community. Cynthia knows without a doubt that God’s plans are always good and He finishes what He starts.

“He will continue His embroidery in our lives until the end.” – Cynthia.

Joshua 1:9 Haven’t I commanded you: be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
