Value vs. Worth

Value and worth are not the same! We often think of them as having the same meaning. Value can be hammered and battered and assaulted by life. It links arms with pride. Our environment or circumstances identify where it is placed on a measuring stick.

But worth can only come from God. He alone imprinted the greatest amount of worth on us before we were born. While they, Father, Son and Holy Spirit were creating us, they knew what it would cost them and they did it anyway – on purpose. They formed us in Their worth. They pushed it deep inside where it could not be disturbed or shaken. And then They gave us the gift of choice. We have the ability to choose what to focus on – the value which comes from comparison and the fear of man or worth based on Who we belong to, Who fashioned us into His image with purpose and destiny written into our substance.

We have a greater worth than our minds can conceive! Every time we find ourselves comparing, we are setting ourselves up for pain. We can begin to recognize the natural tendency to use a measuring stick and repent. Worth cannot be measured. It is within our spirit. God created humans uniquely with a spirit, soul and body. We have to agree with our spirit about our worth. Worth does not bring pride. Worth brings a settling rest. It pushes aside the relentless striving and relaxes into contentment. It is steady, reliable and trustworthy.

How do we get in touch with our worth? We ask our Father to show us. He will. It will be His pleasure to reveal it to us. It will unfold gradually as we keep asking Him to make it real to us. It is critical that we see our worth in order to live from it. The more we grasp hold of it the closer our relationship with the Trinity will become. This is where we find our true satisfaction in life.
