~ Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, but wine and milk without money and without cost. (Isa 55:1 NIV)
~ How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! (Ps 119:103 NIV)
Indira has had an interest in Japan going back to a young age; however, it wasn’t until recent years when God started revealing to her the “why” behind that passion. It started in late 2021 with a statistic: “only around 1% of the Japanese population is Christian.” Armed with curiosity, she started digging more into this fact and discovered the true dire spiritual needs of Japan, needs that are often overshadowed by how Japan is presented from a worldly perspective. With these facts and information, God started stirring Indira’s heart on how she could play a part in helping reach the Japanese people with the Gospel.
It started locally through outreach to Japanese college students visiting or studying in the US. This led to going on two mission trips to Japan where she ministered to locals across the country. After her first mission trip to Japan, God called Indira to start preparing for long-term missions in Japan as a missionary and to move to Japan. While uncertain at first as to what that would look like and how it would happen, through prayer and with God by her side, He started prompting her to the assignment He had for her: use her gifts and background in baking & pastry arts and her other major passion of reaching those in the next generation as her outreach tools.
Inspired by other café outreach ministries both in the US and other parts of the world, Indira is looking to start and run her own café ministry through a partnering church in Okinawa, Japan. In addition to being open to the community and as a space that local churches can use for meetings and events, the café will also host a feeding program for local children in the area facing food insecurity. The mission of the café is to be a community gathering place where people can come, share a meal or a drink, and experience the love of Jesus and the Gospel.
